1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using the Kelmet mobile application (the "App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.
2. Service Description
2.1 General Purpose
Kelmet is a language learning application designed to teach Maltese, with a focus on:
- Structured lessons and courses (vocabulary, grammar, conjugation, culture)
- Interactive exercises (matching, fill-in-the-blank, word search, multiple choice, flashcards, etc.)
- AI-powered feedback for certain exercises (optional, via AI Credits)
- Vocabulary training and spaced repetition
2.2 Target Audience
- Expatriates and tourists in Malta
- Professionals in healthcare, hospitality, and commerce
- Anyone interested in learning Maltese
- Minimum age: 13 years old
3. User Accounts
3.1 Account Creation
Account Registration is Required
To use Kelmet and access any features, you must create an account. This requirement exists because:
- Kelmet provides a personalized learning curriculum based on your progress
- Your exercise results, scores, and learning statistics must be saved
- The App tracks your daily lessons, vocabulary mastery, and skill development
- You need an account to receive your 20 free AI Credits
- Your data must be synced across devices
You cannot use the App without an account.
Registration Methods
You can create an account using one of three methods:
- Google Sign-In (We receive: email address, name; profile picture only if shared by your provider)
- Apple Sign-In (We receive: email or Apple private relay email; optional name)
- Email + Password (You provide: email address, username, password)
What Happens After Registration
- You immediately receive 20 free AI Credits (permanent)
- You gain access to the "Lesson of the Day" and available free lessons
- Your learning progress begins to be tracked
- No payment or credit card required for the free plan
3.2 Account Responsibility
You are responsible for:
- Maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials (for email sign-up)
- All activities that occur under your account
- Notifying us immediately of any unauthorized access
3.3 Account Deletion
- You can delete your account at any time in-app: Profile → Delete account

4. Subscriptions and Paid Features
4.1 Plans

- Access to ALL lessons
- Vocabulary revision module
- "Coffee Break" exercises for all lessons
- Access to AI Bonus exercises
- 300 AI Credits per month (monthly allocation — see Section 5 for details)
- Personalized AI feedback
- You keep your initial 20 free permanent credits
Boost Plan (Monthly subscription)
- Everything in Essential
- 1,000 AI Credits per month (monthly allocation — see Section 5 for details)
- Ideal for intensive practice
- You keep your initial 20 free permanent credits
Pricing Notice (Important)
- Subscription prices and AI Credit pack prices are displayed in the App Store at the time of purchase.
- Prices may vary by country/region, currency, taxes, and App Store pricing updates.
- If a discounted price is offered (for example, subscriber discounts on credit packs), the final price is shown in the App Store checkout before you confirm the purchase.
Auto-Renewable Subscription Terms (Apple)
- Payment will be charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase.
- Your subscription automatically renews unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period.
- You can manage and cancel your subscriptions in your device settings: Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
4.2 Managing Subscriptions
You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time:
- Open iPhone/iPad Settings
- Tap your Apple ID
- Select Subscriptions
- Choose Kelmet and modify or cancel
5. AI Credits
5.1 What are AI Credits?
AI Credits are consumable tokens that allow you to receive AI-powered feedback for certain exercises (for example: pronunciation feedback, open questions, role-play, image description).

5.2 Types of AI Credits

5.3 Permanent Credits (Free & Purchased)
🎁 Free Credits at Registration
All new users receive 20 free AI Credits when creating an account.
- These credits are permanent and never expire as long as your account is active
- Free credits remain available whether or not you have an active subscription
Purchased Credit Packs are also permanent:
- Credits purchased via Credit Packs never expire as long as your account is active
- Purchased credits remain valid even if you subscribe or cancel a subscription
- Subscriber discounts may apply (shown at checkout)
5.4 Monthly Subscription Credits
⚠️ Monthly Allocation — Important Information
Your subscription includes a monthly allocation of AI Credits:
- Essential: 300 credits per month
- Boost: 1,000 credits per month
Key points:
- Unused subscription credits expire at the end of each billing period
- At each renewal, you receive a fresh allocation of monthly credits
- Subscription credits do NOT accumulate from month to month
- This encourages regular practice and consistent learning
5.5 Credit Usage Priority
When you use AI features, credits are consumed in this order:
- Monthly subscription credits first (expire soonest)
- Purchased credit packs second
- Free credits last
This ensures your permanent credits are preserved as long as possible.
5.6 Credit Usage Examples
Examples of credit-consuming exercises:
- Pronunciation feedback (score + advice)
- Image description feedback (score + correction + analysis)
- Open question feedback (score + correction + analysis)
- Role-play conversations (each user message may consume 1 credit; the final summary may be free, as shown in-app)
5.7 What Happens When You Cancel
If you cancel your subscription:
- Your initial 20 free credits remain valid indefinitely
- Your purchased credits remain valid indefinitely
- Any remaining subscription credits are available until the end of your current billing period, then expire
- You retain access to subscription features until the end of the paid period
Refunds for Consumables
AI Credits are consumable purchases. Refund requests must be made through Apple (see Section 8). If Apple grants a refund, we may revoke the corresponding credits/access. Unused credits cannot be exchanged for cash.
6. AI-Powered Features
6.1 Audio Processing (Pronunciation)
- Your audio is temporarily processed by Microsoft Azure Speech-to-Text.
- Audio files are NOT permanently stored and are deleted after processing.
- We do not store speech-to-text transcriptions produced from your audio.
6.2 AI Feedback
- AI feedback is powered by Google Gemini.
- Gemini analyzes your text responses and exercise context to generate feedback.
6.3 Permissions, Consent, and Optional Nature
- We ask for your consent before your first exercise that uses AI feedback.
- We request microphone/speech permissions before your first pronunciation exercise.
- If you enable notifications, we may send learning reminders; you can disable notifications in your device settings.
- AI Bonus exercises are optional.
6.4 User Content & AI Output Disclaimer
- You are responsible for the content you submit (text, answers, recordings).
- Please avoid submitting sensitive personal data in free-text answers.
- AI feedback may be inaccurate or incomplete and is provided for educational purposes only.
7. Acceptable Use
You agree NOT to:
- Use the App for any illegal purpose
- Attempt to hack, disrupt, or damage the service
- Share your account credentials with others
- Create multiple accounts to abuse free credits, trials, or promotions
- Use bots or automated tools to interact with the App
Violation may result in account suspension or termination.
8. Refund Policy
8.1 Apple's Refund Process
All purchases are processed through Apple's In-App Purchase system. Refund requests must be made directly to Apple:
- Go to reportaproblem.apple.com
- Sign in with your Apple ID
- Find the Kelmet purchase
- Select "Request a Refund"
8.2 Notes
- Deleting the App does not cancel your subscription.
- If Apple grants a refund, access/credits tied to that purchase may be revoked.
9. Intellectual Property
- The App, lessons, content, design, and trademarks are owned by Kelmet or its licensors and are protected by applicable laws.
- You are granted a personal, non-transferable license to use the App for your own learning, subject to these Terms.
- You may not copy, resell, reverse engineer, or redistribute the App or its content except as allowed by law.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- Kelmet is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
- We are not liable for data loss, service interruptions, or technical errors
- Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid in the last 12 months (if any)
11. Changes to the Service and Terms
- We may update the App and these Terms from time to time.
- If changes are material, we may notify you via in-app notice and/or email.
- Continued use of the App after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
12. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Malta. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Malta.
13. Apple Standard EULA
Your use of the App is also subject to Apple's Standard End User License Agreement (EULA) for the App Store and In-App Purchases:
